What is ISO 21306‑1 - PVC-U moulding and extrusion materials about?
ISO 21306‑1 is the first part of the multi-series ISO 21306. ISO 21306‑1 establishes a system of designation for unplasticized PVC thermoplastic material which may be used as the basis for specifications.
The types of PVC-U plastics are differentiated from each other by a classification system based on appropriate levels of the designatory properties:
- Vicat softening temperature
- Impact strength (Charpy notched)
- Modulus of elasticity
NOTE 1: ISO 21306‑1 is applicable to all unplasticized compositions of homopolymers and copolymers that contain at least a mass fraction of 50 % of vinyl chloride. ISO 21306‑1 is also applicable to compositions containing chlorinated poly (vinyl chloride) and to compositions containing blends of one or more of the above-mentioned polymers, provided that the total amount of these polymers represents at least a mass fraction of 50 % of the polymer content of the composition.
NOTE 2: ISO 21306‑1 applies to materials ready for normal use in the form of powder, granules, or pellets and to materials unmodified or modified by colorants, additives, fillers, etc.
NOTE: ISO 21306‑1 does not apply to cellular plastics.
NOTE 4: ISO 21306‑1 is not intended to imply that materials having the same designation give necessarily the same performance. ISO 21306‑1 does not provide engineering data, performance data or data on processing conditions that can be required to specify a material for a particular application and/or method of processing.
Who is ISO 21306‑1 - PVC-U moulding and extrusion materials for?
ISO 21306‑1 on PVC-U moulding and extrusion materials is useful for:
- Unplasticized poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) manufacturers
- Product development / innovation / research teams
- Quality control teams
Why should you use ISO 21306‑1 - PVC-U moulding and extrusion materials?
PVC-U is an amorphous thermoplastic. The characteristics of PVC-U moulded parts are strongly dependent on the composition of the formula, but also on the processing.
ISO 21306‑1 establishes a system of designation for unplasticized PVC thermoplastic material which may be used as the basis for specifications for maintaining the characteristics or functions of PVC-U for longer lifecycle and for reducing the maintenance cost of the organization.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 21306‑1:2019 supersedes ISO 1163‑1:1995. BS EN ISO 21306‑1:2019 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 1163‑1:1995. These include:
- The positions of Data block 2 and Data block 4 of the old designation system has been changed.
