What is ISO 21509 - Verification of Shore durometers about?
Plastics are globally popular because they are durable, flexible, lightweight and can be shaped into any form. Their resistance to deformation is known as hardness.
ISO 21509 concerns the verification of type A and D Shore durometers used to conduct hardness tests as described in ISO 868.
Who is ISO 21509 - Verification of Shore durometers for?
ISO 21509 on verification of Shore durometers is useful for organizations associated with:
- Manufacturing of plastics and ebonite
- Testing of plastics and ebonite
- Research and development
- Product design
- Quality control
Why should you use ISO 21509 - Verification of Shore durometers?
While ebonite is obtained by vulcanizing natural rubber for prolonged periods, plastics are completely synthetic with polymers as the main ingredient. But both ebonite and plastics’ hardness can be measured with a durometer. So it is important to check the quality of a durometer.
ISO 21509 provides guidance on:
- Verification of the geometry and the maximum protrusion of the indenter beyond the base of the presser foot
- Indenter for type A durometer
- Indenter for type D durometer
- Verification of the geometry of the presser foot
- Verification of the scale of the indicating device
- Verification of the force exerted by the measurement spring on the indenter
- Frequency of verification
The guidelines in ISO 21509 help you assess the quality of Shore durometers for industrial purposes so that the end customer can use superior quality products.
