What is ISO 21853 about?
ISO 21853 discusses kiteboarding. While kiteboarding is an enjoyable water sport, it has inherent risks. One way to regain control in such situations is to activate the release system. ISO 21853 specifies the minimum safety requirements and test methods for a release system that reduces the pulling force of the kite and disconnects the user from the kite.
ISO 21853 is applicable for release systems that are operated intentionally by the user or another person and are used for the sport of kite boarding.
Who is ISO 21853 for?
ISO 21853 on kite boarding is useful for:
- Kiteboarding equipment manufacturers
- Kiteboarding instructors
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 21853?
ISO 21853 has been developed in connection with the Global Kite sports Association (GKA) and other stakeholders, such as trainers/instructors, test houses, universities, and other manufacturers. ISO 21853 aims to lower the risks associated with the sport for users and others.
ISO 21853 provides requirements and test methods that have been resembling as closely as possible, situations occurring and conditions present while performing the sport. Tests conducted for validating the test methods have shown that using saltwater or non-salted water has no effect on the test results.
