What is ISO 22052 about?
ISO 22052 discusses central compressed air source equipment for dentistry. ISO 22052 outlines requirements and test methods for central compressed air source equipment supplying dental air for dental units and various dental air consuming devices in the dental office.
ISO 22052 also specifies quality requirements and test methods for the dental air produced by the central compressed air source equipment, such as requirements for the purity level of dental air.
ISO 22052 specifies requirements for information to be supplied by the manufacturer on the performance, installation, operation, and maintenance of the dental air compressors.
ISO 22052 applies only to central compressed air source equipment located outside of the dental treatment room.
Note: ISO 22052 does not apply to central compressed air source equipment located in the dental treatment room and facility piping. This document does not include requirements for dental laboratory applications (e.g., CAD/CAM systems)
Who is ISO 22052 for?
ISO 22052 on central compressed air source equipment for dentistry is useful for:
- Manufacturers of dental air compressors
- Test centers for dental air compressors
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use ISO 22052?
Central compressed air source equipment is nearly universally present in modern dental treatment facilities. It consists of components located separately from treatment rooms used to compress air, prepare the air to meet quality requirements, and to store the dental air for eventual use by treatment room pneumatic devices. Central compressed air source equipment is used for air-powered handpieces and air-water syringes as well as for cooling purposes.
ISO 22052 guidelines helps you with electrical safety, electromagnetic compatibility quality of dental air, performance, sampling, visual inspection, equipment performance, information to be supplied by the manufacturer, and marking for dental air compressors. This provides clean and dry air and avoids dental procedures from being compromised. ISO 22052 also protects against high humidity in the dental air that creates corrosion in the air receivers and airlines. Following ISO 22052 guidelines helps in preventing technical difficulties and protects against the growth of microorganisms in the dental air system.
