What is ISO 22568‑4 about?
ISO 22568 is an International Standard on foot and leg protectors that aims to help manufacturers with standardized methods to ensure optimal performance of the overall product.
ISO 22568‑4 is the fourth part in the multi-series of document that specifies requirements and test methods for the non-metallic inserts with resistance against mechanical perforation, intended to function as components of PPE footwear. Non-metallic perforation-resistant inserts and materials complying with the requirements of ISO 22568‑4 are suitable components of “PPE footwear”.
Note: When shaped non-metallic perforation resistant inserts are tested in accordance with this document, their suitability to fit into footwear is not assured, because the dimensional conformity to the footwear depends on the individual shape of each model of footwear.
Who is ISO 22568‑4 for?
ISO 22568‑4 on non-metallic perforation resistant inserts is relevant to:
- Footwear manufacturers catering to specified inserts
- Manufacturers of non-metallic perforation resistant inserts
- PPE manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 22568‑4?
Non-metallic perforation resistant inserts guarantee the safety of your feet, especially while working on sites that involve blunt or sharp objects that can pierce through footwear. ISO 22568‑4 helps manufacturers of these inserts and PPE manufacturers take into consideration the level of mechanical resistance required to protect the product end-user against mechanical puncture risks.
As compared to metallic ones, test methods and requirements suggested under ISO 22568‑4 for non-metallic perforation resistant inserts take into consideration thermal insulation and flexibility, an important quality parameter, depending on the occupational site.
ISO 22568‑4 provides requirements and test methods that assess resistance to nail perforation, flexing, corrosion and electricity that help manufacturers avoid any potential cracking, disintegration or delamination. Moreover, requirements of abrasion resistance and water absorption have also been taken into account. This results in the production and delivery of extremely tensile, durable and high-quality inserts that fulfil the objective of safety and protection.
In addition, meeting the standardized performance parameters under ISO 22568‑4 would help build consumer confidence and reliability in the end-product.
