What is ISO 22579 about?
ISO 22579 discusses infant formula and adult nutritonals. ISO 22579 specifies a method for the determination of inulin-type fructans (including oligofructose, fructooligosaccharides) in infant formula and adult nutritionals (both powder and liquid) containing 0,03 g/100 g to 5,0 g/100 g of fructans in the product as prepared ready for consumption.
ISO 22579 provides a method that has been validated in a multi-laboratory study with reconstituted standard reference material (SRM), infant/adult nutritional formula at a level of 0,204 g/100 g, adult nutritionals ready-to-feed (RTF) at levels of 1,28 g/100 g and 2,67 g/100 g, infant formula RTF at a level of 0,300 g/100 g, reconstituted follow-up formula at levels of 0,209 g/100 g to 0,275 g/100 g, reconstituted infant formula at levels from 0,030 8 g/100 g to 0,264 g/100 g.
Who is ISO 22579 for?
ISO 22579 on the determination of fructans in infant formula and adult nutritionals is useful for:
- Manufacturers of nutritional supplements and baby formulas
- Food technologists
- Paediatricians
- Food laboratories
- Nutritionists
- Neonatologist
Why should you use ISO 22579?
Fructans are plant carbohydrates that resist digestion in the upper gastrointestinal tract but are quantitatively fermented. Fructans in infant formula and adult nutritional supplements are necessary to maintain healthy bacteria in the gut.
ISO 22579 enables you to understand and perform the HPAEC-PAD method accurately by providing you with a detailed account of its requirements and procedure. With the HPAEC-PAD method described in ISO 22579 you can determine the fructan content in your products. This can help you to enhance the nutritional value of your products by regulating the fructan content in them.
