Who is ISO 22748 for?
ISO 22748 on product type names and illustrations for absorbent incontinence products is applicable to:
- Stakeholders
- Absorbent incontinence product manufacturers
- Clinicians
- Absorbent incontinence product suppliers
Why should you use ISO 22748?
Incontinence is defined as the complaint of any involuntary leakage of urine and/or faeces. It is estimated that 400 million people are affected by incontinence worldwide and the number is increasing as the population in many countries ages. Incontinence that cannot be (fully) cured is most commonly managed using absorbent products.
Products come in a range of different designs but the terms that are currently used to describe the product types are very different among countries, resulting in a confusing variety of synonyms among clinicians and academics and in the literature provided by product suppliers. ISO 22748 provides a standardized terminology that would help you understand and communicate among stakeholders. ISO 22748 also includes recommended and other product type names and examples.
ISO 22748:2021 contributes to the following six UN Sustainable Development goals:
- 10 on reducing inequalities
- 1 on ending poverty
- 11 on sustainable cities and communities
- 3 on good health and well-being
- 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure
- 8 on decent work and economic growth
