What is ISO 2313-2 about?
ISO 2313-2 is a series on textiles. A textile is a flexible material made by creating an interlocking bundle of yarns or threads, which are produced by spinning raw fibres into long and twisted lengths. ISO 2313-2 specifies a method for determining the crease recovery angle of fabric specimen while placing it in such a way that the folded line is vertical to the horizontal plane for a specified time after removal of creasing load. ISO 2313-2 is applicable for all kinds of textile fabrics.
Who is ISO 2313--2 for?
ISO 2313-2 on textiles is useful for:
- Textile manufacturer
- Textile testing institution
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 2313-2?
Textiles are then formed by weaving, knitting, tatting, felting, bonding, or braiding. these yarns together. Crease recovery is the property of a textile material by which it can return to its former shape after being creased. The measure of crease resistance is specified quantitatively in terms of crease recovery angle. The crease recovery of fabric can be increased by resin treatment. Crease recovery comes into play after the fabric has been created. ISO 2313‑2 determines the crease recovery angle of the fabric specimen while placing it in such a way that the folded line is vertical to the horizontal plane for a specified time after removal of creasing load. The folded specimen is maintained under a specified load for a specified time. After removal of creasing load, the specimen is placed in such a way that the folded line is vertical to the horizontal plane for a specified time, and then the crease recovery angle is measured.
Creasing, especially after washing, is a major problem in fabric because of the free hydroxyl groups in its structure. When fabrics crease, molecular chains in the amorphous region slip past each other, breaking the weak hydrogen bonds because of stretched chains. They then form new hydrogen bonds in the stretched places and the fabric holds the creases. This affects the appearance of the fabric. So, the fabric is treated with chemicals to improve its crease recovery property. Softening agents give a smooth and attractive look to garments and are among the most important textile chemicals. They can make textiles supple, pliant, sleek, fluffy, smooth, more flexible, and easier to drape.
So, crease recovery will improve the quality level and efficiency of the textile. Basically, it makes the textile according to the needs of the end-user and will increase the demand and it will increase the productivity and production level of the company with an increase in the revenue and goodwill in the market. Using ISO 2313‑2 you can specify a method for determining the crease recovery angle of the fabric specimen.
