What is ISO 24265 about?
ISO 24265 discusses footwear quality. ISO 24265 specifies a method for the determination of the rubbing resistance of leather and synthetic materials using rubber.
In certain conditions, the uppers of footwear tend to rub against the other shoe or against other materials in the environment. Certain wearers, such as children or athletes tend to cause more rubbing of footwear uppers.
ISO 24265 aims to establish testing conditions that are similar to those of the practical use of footwear subjected to drastic stress, as is the case of hiking or children’s footwear, where the upper of one of the shoes is expected to rub with the sole of the other. ISO 24265 applies to all types of leather and synthetic materials intended for shoe uppers.
Who is ISO 24265 for?
ISO 24265 on resistance of footwear to rubbing is useful for:
- Footwear manufacturers
- Footwear designers
- Research and development personnel
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 24265?
Scuffed footwear creates a poor impression and can ruin a well-put-together look. As designers and manufacturers of footwear, you would be able to assess the resistance of the material to scuffing, using ISO 24265.
Abrasion-resistant fabric withstands surface wear from rubbing, extending the life of a product and protecting the person who wears it. Footwear that retains its construction during extensive wear is sought by companies whose products depend on safety and wearability. One quality of footwear that resists scuffing is the ability of the fabric to flex without the fibre breaking. One option for this is a rubber and cloth combination - a cloth is coated with a rubber sheet.
ISO 24265 determines the resistance of footwear to rubbing, using a rubber strip of footwear to conduct the resistance test. Using ISO 24265 guidelines, you will be in a position to understand which materials are sturdy enough to be used in footwear that tends to see rough use.
