What is ISO 24598-Welding consumables about?
ISO 24598 is an International Standard on welding consumables. It provides you with best industry practices to ensure you achieve a good weld.
ISO 24598 specifies requirements for the classification of solid wire electrodes, tubular cored electrodes, and electrode/flux combinations for submerged arc welding of creep resisting and low-alloy elevated-temperature application steels. One electrode can be tested and classified with different fluxes. The solid wire electrode is also classified separately based on its chemical composition.
ISO 24598 is a combined specification providing a classification system based on either:
- The chemical composition of the solid wire electrode and all-weld metal deposit
- The tensile strength of the all-weld metal deposit and the chemical composition of the solid wire electrode and all-weld metal deposit obtained with the electrode/flux combination
Who is ISO 24598-Welding consumables for?
ISO 24598 on welding consumables is relevant to:
- Welding consumables manufacturers
- Automotive and mechanical industry
- Earthmoving tools manufacturers
- Structural and vessel construction
- Shipbuilding industry
- Welders and fabricators
Why should you use ISO 24598-Welding consumables?
Submerged-arc welding (SAW) is a common arc welding procedure in which an arc is formed between a continuously fed electrode and the workpiece. A covering of powdered flux creates a protective gas barrier as well as slag that shields the weld zone.
ISO 24598 provides a classification system for solid wire electrodes in terms of their chemical composition, solid wire electrodes and tubular cored electrodes in terms of the chemical composition of the deposit obtained with a particular submerged arc flux and, where required, electrode-flux combinations in terms of the yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of the all-weld metal deposit.
ISO 24598 helps you standardize the classification of solid wire electrodes, tubular cored electrodes, and electrode-fluxes for submerged arc welding of creep resisting steels. Having a common point of reference for classification improves the efficiency of submerged arc welding across the welding industry. This can help build trust and credibility across the welding consumables supply chain.
