What is ISO 25178-600-Geometrical product specifications (GPS) about?
ISO 25178600 is an international standard that focuses on the aspects of geometrical product specifications (GPS). ISO 25178600 specifies the metrological characteristics of areal instruments for measuring surface topography. As the surface profiles can be extracted from surface topography images, most of the terms defined in ISO 25178-600 can also be applied to profiling measurements.
ISO 25178600 gives technical specifications such as related terms definitions, all areal topography measuring methods, optical properties of the workpiece, standard metrological characteristics for surface texture measurement, etc.
Who is ISO 25178-600-Geometrical product specifications (GPS) for?
ISO 25178-600 on the areal topography measuring methods is relevant to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of topography measuring instruments
- Manufacturers and suppliers of dimensional tools
- Metrologists
- Engineers and mathematicians
Why should you use ISO 25178-600-Geometrical product specifications (GPS)?
Areal reference is a component of the instrument that generates a reference surface with respect to which the surface topography is measured. ISO 25178-600 is a geometrical product specification (GPS) standard and is to be regarded as a general GPS standard. It influences the chain-link F of the chains of standards on areal surface texture and profile surface texture.
ISO 25178-600 describes the metrological characteristics of areal topography methods that are designed for the measurement of surface topography maps. ISO 25178-600 specifies a closed chain that comprises all components connecting the workpiece and the probe, for example, the means of positioning, the work holding fixture, the measuring stand, the drive unit, and the probing system.
ISO 25178-600 also assists the user with the device that converts the surface height into a signal during measurement. It gives a description of the relation between the actual quantity and the measured quantity.
Overall, ISO 25178-600 is helpful as it provides metrological characteristics describing the ability of surface topography measuring instruments to distinguish closely spaced surface features.
