Brackets are small metal squares that are attached to the front and side teeth. They act like handles that allow us to grab onto the teeth to move them. They are bonded directly to the enamel of the tooth with a special adhesive. Tubes (stainless steel that allows wires to pass through them) are typically welded to bands but they may also be glued directly to molars.
ISO 27020 best practice guideline provides requirements on hazardous elements, release, dimensions, and angles for brackets and tubes for use in orthodontics. ISO 27020 provides test methods on dimensions, static immersion corrosion test method, and treatment of results for brackets and tubes for use in orthodontics. ISO 27020 also provides packaging, labelling, and information to be provided to the user.
This helps in improving the quality of brackets and tubes for use in orthodontics and ensures the patient’s health and safety.
