What is ISO 2811-1 - Pycnometer method density test standard about?
A pycnometer is a small glass bottle of known volume for determining the relative density of liquids and solids by weighing. ISO 2811-1 specifies a method for determining the density of paints, varnishes, and related products using a metal or Gay-Lussac pycnometer. The method is limited to materials of low or medium viscosity at the temperature of test. The Hubbard pycnometer can be used for highly viscous materials.
Who is ISO 2811-1 - Pycnometer method density test standard for?
ISO 2811-1 on pycnometer method density test standard is useful for:
- Manufacturers of paints and varnishes
- Product development / innovation / research teams
- Quality control teams
Why should you use ISO 2811-1 - Pycnometer method density test standard?
Paint is any pigmented liquid, liquefiable, or solid mastic composition that, after application to a substrate in a thin layer, converts to a solid film. It is most commonly used to protect, colour, or provide texture to objects, and comes in a variety of densities. The sections on principle, temperature, apparatus, and sampling have been discussed in thorough detail in ISO 2811-1. Using ISO 2811-1 guidelines you would be able to determine the density of paints, varnishes, and related products using a pycnometer. ISO 2811-1 guidelines enable you to provide your customers with suitable, reliable, and high-quality products.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 2811-1:2016 supersedes BS EN ISO 2811-1:2011. BS EN ISO 2811-1:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 2811-1:2011. These include:
- The information on the accuracy of the analytical balance and the thermometer was changed
- A requirement was added that the sample shall be free from air bubbles
- The spelling of pycnometer was corrected
