What is ISO 28199-2 about?
ISO 28199 discusses paints and varnishes. ISO 28199-2 is the second part of multi-series ISO 28199 and discusses colour stability, process hiding power, re-dissolving, overspray absorption, wetting, surface texture and mottling.
ISO 28199-2 specifies methods for the determination of colour stability/colour evaluation, process hiding power, re-dissolving, overspray absorption, wetting, surface texture and mottling of coating materials applied to a test panel under defined conditions, using the spray application process.
Who is ISO 28199-2 for?
ISO 28199-2 on paints and varnishes evaluation of properties of coating systems related to the spray application process is useful for:
- Paint manufacturers
- Automobile manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 28199-2?
The coating materials used are adapted to the specific application equipment and settings of the user. A coating material is, therefore, to be understood as a semi-manufactured product that only achieves its final form in combination with the specific application conditions. The properties to be evaluated for coating materials and coatings depend on the film thickness, so a coating system of increasing or constant thickness is applied to one or more test panels under defined conditions depending on the surface properties to be tested.
ISO 28199-2 helps you to determine colour stability or colour evaluation, process hiding power, redissolving, overspray absorption, wetting, surface texture and mottling. The surface texture can be measured both independently of the film thickness and a constant film thickness. Mottling is preferably measured at constant film thickness. Tendency to sagging, formation of bubbles, pinholing and hiding power.
ISO 28199-2 helps you in the determination coating’s ability to hide the surface of an object, colour stability re-dissolving, overspray absorption, wetting, surface texture and mottling.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 28199-2:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 28199-2:2009, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 28199-2:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 28199-2:2009.
These include:
- The assessment of mottling has been divided into measuring techniques and visual evaluation
- Limit values have been introduced for long-wavelength and short-wavelength surface textures
- The normative references have been updated
- The document has been editorially revised
