What is ISO 29461‑1 about?
ISO 29461‑1 specifies the methods and procedures for determining the static performance of particulate air filters used in air intake filter systems for rotary machinery such as stationary gas turbines, compressors and other stationary internal combustion engines.
The scope of ISO 29461‑1 includes methods for performance testing of individual filter systems. Static filter systems normally use multiple stages of course, fine and optional EPA or HEPA filters elements to protect the machinery.
Note 1: ISO 29461‑1 does not apply to predict performance in service with regard to efficiency and lifetime.
Note 2: ISO 29461‑1 refers to static(barrier) filter systems but also applies to other filer types and systems in appropriate circumstances, for example to evaluate the initial efficiency of cleanable and surface loading filters.
Note 3: ISO 29461‑1 does not include methods for the direct measurement of the performance of entire systems as installed in service except in cases where they can meet the qualification criteria for the test assembly.
Who is ISO 29461‑1 for?
ISO 29461‑1 on static filter elements for air intake filter systems is useful for:
- Manufactures and production companies of air filter and static filters
- Dealers and suppliers of various air filter used in industry
- Companies dealing with air pollution controlling elements
Why should you use ISO 29461‑1?
In rotating machinery applications, the filtering systems, typically a set of filter elements arranged in a suitable manner, are an important part of the whole turbine/compressor system.
It is important to understand that air filter devices in such systems are located in various environmental conditions. The range of climate and particulate contamination is very wide, ranging from deserts to humid rain forests to arctic environments. The requirements on these filter systems are obviously different depending on where they will be operating.
ISO 29461 (all parts) has based the performance of the air intake filter systems not only upon heavy dust collection but also particulate efficiency in a size range that is considered to be the problematic area for these applications.
The purpose of air intake filter for rotary machines is to prevent the dirt, dust or any other environmental contaminants from getting into the rotary machinery engines.
ISO 29461‑1 helps you achieve the main purpose of the static filter systems, which is to filter out the data where the values are predefined, without any errors.
ISO 29461‑1 specifies the requirements and evaluation for the performance of the air intake filter systems, as it not only applies upon heavy dust collection but also particulate in a size range that is considered to be the problematic area for the components.
ISO 29461‑1 enables you to ensure the safety and protection of the rotary machinery as the static filter systems intakes the cold air to the machine and releases the hot air/moisture from the machine, which helps the quality of machine to long last.
What’s changes since the last update?
BS EN ISO 29461‑1:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 29461‑1:2013, which is withdrawn.
Then main changes compared to the BS EN ISO 29461‑1:2013 are as follows:
- A new test method, referring to ISO 16890 (all parts) and ISO 29463 (all parts), has been added
- A classification table has been added
- previous Annexes A, B, C and D have been deleted; previous Annex E has become Annex A.
