What is ISO 374-5 - Terminology and performance requirements for micro-organisms risks about?
ISO 374-5 specifies the requirements and test methods for protective gloves intended to protect the user against micro-organisms.
Note: If other protection features are to be needed, e.g. chemical risks, mechanical risks, thermal risks, electrostatic dissipation etc., the appropriate specific performance standard is to be used in addition. Further information on protective gloves standards can be found in the EN 420.
Who is ISO 374-5 - Terminology and performance requirements for micro-organisms risks for?
ISO 374-5 on Terminology and performance requirements for micro-organisms risks is useful for:
- Manufacturers of protective gloves
- Academia and research institutions
- Risk assessment agencies
Why should you use ISO 374-5 - Terminology and performance requirements for micro-organisms risks?
When specifying and selecting protective gloves, resistance to micro‑organisms should be given high priority, when relevant to the end-user. In this context, the term ‘micro-organism resistance’ refers to the resistance of a glove or gauntlet to permeability from bacteria, fungi and viruses.
EN ISO 374-5:2016 details standard test methods and associated performance classifications which allow a comparison of the performance of gloves under laboratory conditions to be made.
Protective gloves form a protective barrier to microbiological agents. Specifications and test methods enlisted in ISO 374-5 helps you ensure that the user is protected against micro-organisms.
ISO 374-5 also provides guidance on the marking of gloves protecting against viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
