What is ISO 3949 about?
ISO 3949 specifies requirements for three types of textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses and hose assemblies of nominal size from 3,2 to 25. Each type is divided into two classes dependent on electrical conductivity requirements.
They are suitable for use with:
- Oil-based hydraulic fluids HH, HL, HM, HR, and HV as defined in ISO 6743‑4 at temperatures ranging from −40 °C to +93 °C
- Water-based fluids HFC, HFAE, HFAS and HFB as defined in ISO 6743‑4 at temperatures ranging from 0 °C to +60 °C
- Water at temperatures ranging from 0 °C to +60 °C
It is the responsibility of the user, in consultation with the hose manufacturer, to establish the compatibility of the hose with the fluid to be used.
Note: ISO 3949 does not include any requirements for end fittings. It is limited to the performance of hoses and hose assemblies.
Who is BS EN ISO 3949 for?
BS EN ISO 3949 on textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses is applicable to:
- Textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses manufacturers
- Automobile manufacturers
- Petrochemical industry
- Industrial gasses industry
- Chemical Industry
- HVAC industry
Why should you use BS EN ISO 3949?
Textile-reinforced thermoplastics are used in automotive and aerospace industry. So, resistance of damage from various chemicals and gases is necessary to ensure safety of the users.
Following the requirements in ISO 3949 will assist you in designing safe textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses and assemblies as well as reducing costs in the manufacturing of textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses and assemblies. And contribute to the standardization of the manufacturing processes for textile-reinforced thermoplastic hoses and hose assemblies.
By adopting ISO 3949 guidelines you will be able to manufacture high-quality and efficient textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses products and hoses assemblies.
ISO 3949 provides you with the classification of textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses in terms of temperature, pressure, and fluid used in textile-reinforced thermoplastics hoses.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 3949:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 3949:2018, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 3949:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 3949:2018. These include:
- The percentage change in the volume of the lining and cover in the test with water-based fluids has been changed from 0 % and +25 % to −15 % and +35 %
- The percentage change in the volume of the lining and cover in the test with water has been changed from −10 % and +25 % to −15 % and +35 %
