What is ISO 4524-3 about?
ISO 4524-3 is one of the parts of the multi-series standard specifies four electrographic tests for assessing the porosity of electrodeposited gold and gold alloy coatings for engineering, and decorative and protective purposes.
ISO 4524-3 provides methods for examining gold coatings and determining porosity of different metal coatings.
Who is ISO 4524-3 for?
ISO 4524-3 on gold coatings is applicable in the following industries:
- Electronics and electrical manufacturers
- Jewellery manufacturers
- Aerospace industry
- Medical device manufacturers
Why should you use ISO 4524-3?
Standardization in metallic coating procedures is important to protect the metals from damage by exposure to chemicals, temperature and pressure. The ISO 4524-3 guidelines assist you in assessing the porosity of electrodeposited gold and gold alloy coatings, which are used due to their corrosion-resistant electrically conductive qualities.
Better Identification of porosity in gold coatings with ISO 4524-3 guidelines improve the quality of gold-coated products. Not only does it increase longevity, but compliance with the standards informs customers that the quality and performance of the products are the best in industry.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 4524-3:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 4524-3:1995, which is withdrawn.
The Technical change compared to the previous edition is as follows:
- Due to currently strong restrictions on the use of cadmium,
- The cadmium sulphide paper test prescribed by the last edition of this document has been deleted
