What is ISO 4947 about ?
ISO 4947 is an international standard on steel and cast iron on the determination of vanadium content to improve its quality.
ISO 4947 specifies a potentiometric titration method for the determination of vanadium in steel and cast iron.
ISO 4947 is applicable to vanadium contents between 0,04 % (mass fraction) and 2 % (mass fraction).
ISO 4947 provides information on the potentiometric titration method which includes apparatus, sampling, and procedure.
Who is ISO 4947 for ?
ISO 4947 on the determination of vanadium content in steel and cast iron is applicable to:
- Manufacturers of steel and cast-iron components
- Dealers and importers of steel and cast-iron components
- Raw material suppliers of steel and cast-iron applications
Why should you use ISO 4947 ?
Vanadium improves quenched steel tempering stability and generates a secondary hardening effect. In cast iron, vanadium increases elasticity, proof strength, tensile strength. Content of vanadium is required for quality assessment purposes as it influences the overall quality of steel and cast-iron components.
ISO 4947 provides you information on principle, reagents, apparatus, sampling, procedure, results, test report and graphical representation of data to determine the vanadium content in steel and cast iron which allows you to enhance the quality of steel and cast iron.
The methods and procedures provided by ISO 4947 help you to improve the strength and promotes the thermal stability of steel and cast-iron components.
What is changed since the last update ?
BS EN ISO 4947:2020 supersedes BS 6200‑3.34.1:1987, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS EN ISO 4947:2020 include –
- Introduction of an optional electrode
- Re-assessment of precision data
