What is ISO 527‑5 about?
ISO 527‑5 is part five of a series of documents that specifies the test conditions for the determination of the tensile properties of unidirectional fibre-reinforced plastic composites, based upon the general principles given in ISO 527‑1.
Note: Isotropic and orthotropic reinforced materials are covered by ISO 527‑4. The method is not normally suitable for multidirectional materials composed of several unidirectional layers at different angles.
Who is ISO 527‑5 for?
ISO 527‑5 on - Determination of tensile properties - Test conditions for unidirectional fibre-reinforced plastic composites is useful for:
- Plastic industry
- Mechanical engineers
- Industries using tensile testing
Why should you use ISO 527‑5?
Tensile properties are composed of the reaction of the materials to resist when forces are applied in tension. The methods are used to investigate the tensile behaviour of the test specimens and for determining the tensile strength, tensile modulus, Poisson's ratios and other aspects of the tensile stress-strain relationship under the conditions defined.
Tensile testing provides data on the integrity and safety of materials, components and products, helping manufacturers ensure that their finished products are fit-for-purpose and manufactured to the highest quality.
ISO 527‑5 can help you by providing various test conditions for the determination of the tensile properties of unidirectional fibre-reinforced plastic composites which will help you evaluate many performance parameters. This will increase reliability and trust for your organization by quality checking the products going out.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 527‑5:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 527‑5:2009, which is withdrawn.
BS EN ISO 527‑5:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 527‑5:2009.
These includes:
- Gripping force or pressure (e.g. via torque or manometer depending on gripping system used) has been adjusted.
- A new Annex B (Use of unbonded tabs and conditions for gripping tab-less specimens using fine grip faces) has been added.
