What is ISO 6222 - Enumeration of culturable micro-organisms in water about?
ISO 6222 is a European standard that discusses the enumeration of culturable micro-organisms for water quality. ISO 6222 outlines a method for the enumeration of culturable micro-organisms in water by counting the colonies formed in a nutrient agar culture medium after aerobic incubation at 36 °C and 22 °C to measure the operational efficiency of the treatment process of public drinking water supplies and for general application to all types of water.
BS EN ISO 6222 applies to the examination of water intended for human consumption, including water in closed containers and natural mineral waters.
Who is ISO 6222 - Enumeration of culturable micro-organisms in water for?
ISO 6222 on colony count by inoculation in a nutrient agar culture medium is useful for:
- Medical laboratories
- Water quality test centres
- Water supply municipalities
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use ISO 6222 - Enumeration of culturable micro-organisms in water?
Waters of all kinds invariably contain a variety of micro-organisms derived from various sources, such as soil and vegetation, and estimation of the overall numbers provides useful information for the assessment and surveillance of water quality.
ISO 6222 provides sampling, culture media and diluents, procedure, expression of results, and test report for assisting in counting the colonies formed in a nutrient agar culture medium.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 6222, you can properly measure the operational efficiency of the treatment processes such as coagulation, filtration, and disinfection of public drinking water supplies and assist in assessing the integrity of groundwater sources. In addition, also assist in indicating the cleanliness and integrity of the distribution system.
