What is ISO 6259-2 about?
ISO 6259-2 discusses thermoplastic pipes. Specifically, ISO 6259-2 elaborates on the tensile properties of thermoplastic pipes.
ISO 6259-2 focuses on the following properties:
- The stress at yield and stress at break
- The elongation at break.
ISO 6259-2 also gives, for information purposes only, the corresponding basic specifications.
Who is ISO 6259-2 for?
ISO 6259-2 on tensile tests for thermoplastic pipes is useful for:
- Manufacturers of thermoplastic pipes
- Research and testing personnel
- Design teams
Why should you use ISO 6259-2?
Thermoplastic pipes play a critical role in various sectors today. Besides water and drainage, they are used in delivering oil, gas, and other vital resources to consumers around the world. It is vital that these pipes have the ability to endure stresses and strains without getting damaged.
Testing for tensile properties lets you gauge if the PVC pipes in question are able to endure the level of stress that is expected during use.
ISO 6259-2 specifies a method for determining the tensile properties of pipes made of PVC-U, PVC-O, PVC-C, and PVC-HI.
The tensile tests for thermoplastic pipes are intended to be principally regarded as tests of material in the form of pipe. The results can be useful as a material process control test but are not a quantitative assessment of long-term pipe performance.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 6259-2:2020 supersedes ISO 6259-2:1997. BS EN ISO 6259-2:2020 includes some technical and editorial changes with respect to ISO 6259-2:1997. These include:
- The introduction of PVC-O pipes
- The correction of cross-references to ISO 62591:2015
- The introduction of stress at the break as an additional characteristic to be measured and recorded
- The addition of extended sampling for pipe dimensions above or equal to 250 mm
- Updated informative annexes
