What is ISO 6413 about?
ISO 6413 is an international standard on splines and serrations that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for improving the efficiency of mechanical drawing of splines and serrations. ISO 6413 specifies the rules and graphical symbols for the representations of splines and serrations in the technical product documentation.
Two methods of representation are specified:
- Complete representation
- Simplified representation
The rules and graphical symbols specified in ISO 6413 apply to detailed drawings of parts (shafts and hubs) and assembly drawings of joints.
NOTE: For uniformity, all the figures in ISO 6413 have been drawn in the first-angle orthographic projection. A third-angle orthographic projection could equally have been used without prejudice to principles established.
Who is ISO 6413 for?
ISO 6413 on splines and serrations is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of splines and serrations
- Mechanical engineer
- Mechanical drafters
Why should you use ISO 6413?
Splines and serrations are ridges or teeth type keys that are an integral part of the shaft that mesh with grooves in a mating hub to transfer torque and rotational motion
ISO 6413 provides guidance on graphical symbols, a method for indication designation, complete representation of spline joints, representation of details (shafts and hubs), assembly drawings.
As a user of ISO 6413, you can be ensured of rules and graphical symbols for the representations of splines and serrations. ISO 6413 makes it simple for the end-user to understand the mechanical drawing of splines and serrations. ISO 6413 helps you in manufacturing high-quality splines and serrations.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 6413:2018 supersedes BS EN ISO 6413:1995, which is withdrawn.
The following changes have been made:
- Title changed from Technical drawings — Representation of splines and serrations to Technical product documentation — Representation of splines and serrations
- Introduction added
- Normative references reviewed
- Figures improved and titles added
