What is ISO 669 - Mechanical and electrical requirements for resistance welding about?
ISO 669 is an international standard covering mechanical and electrical requirements for resistance welding, ensuring operability, stability and safety in welding applications.
ISO 669 defines and specifies certain identified electrical and mechanical characteristics of the equipment used for:
- Resistance spot welding
- Projection welding
- Resistance seam welding
- Upset welding
- Flash welding
ISO 669 specifies the information to be given in equipment specifications and the test methods to be used for measuring those characteristics.
The following types of power sources are included:
- Single phase with alternating welding current
- Single phase with rectified welding current by rectification of the output of the welding transformer
- Single phase with inverter welding transformer
- Three-phase with rectified welding current by rectification of the output of the welding transformer
- Three-phase with a current rectification in the input of the welding transformer
- Three-phase with inverter welding transformers
Note 1: Safety requirements for resistance welding equipment are covered by IEC 62135–1.
Note 2: Not all requirements apply to all types of equipment.
Note 3: ISO 669 does not apply to welding transformers that are separate from the equipment.
Who is ISO 669 - Mechanical and electrical requirements for resistance welding for?
ISO 669 on the mechanical and electrical requirements for resistance welding is valid for:
- Manufacturers of welding equipment
- Dealers and importers of welding equipment
- Mechanical industries
- Electrical industries
- Testing laboratories
- Welding department of Industries
Why should you use ISO 669 - Mechanical and electrical requirements for resistance welding?
Resistance welding is a method of joining metals by applying pressure and passing a high electric current through the metal combination, which heats the welding joint and melts the metals together, forging them together.
ISO 669 provides users guidance on the physical environment, operating conditions, test conditions, rated no load voltage at the output, maximum short circuit current, thermal rating, cooling liquid circuit, and rating plate, ensuring high-speed welding and performance.
ISO 669 provides users guidelines on the physical environment and operating conditions, including ambient temperature, liquid cooling medium, humidity, altitude, transportation and storage for measuring those characteristics of resistance welding, ensuring operational stability and safety in welding applications.
Guidance in ISO 669 enables users to develop and assess resistance welding equipment, ensuring operational stability, safety and longevity in welding applications.
