What is ISO 6721-2 - Torsion-pendulum method for plastics about?
ISO 6721-2 is the second part of the ISO 6721 multi-series. ISO 6721-2 specifies two methods (A and B) for determining the linear dynamic mechanical properties of plastics, i.e., the storage and loss components of the torsional modulus, as a function of temperature, for small deformations within the frequency range from 0,1 Hz to 10 Hz.
Note: The two methods described are not applicable to non-symmetrical laminates. The methods are not suitable for testing rubbers.
Who is ISO 6721-2 - Torsion-pendulum method for plastics for?
ISO 6721-2 on the torsion-pendulum method for plastics is useful for:
- Manufacturers of plastic products
- Product design engineers / product development teams
- Quality control personnel
- Testing laboratories
Why should you use ISO 6721-2 - Torsion-pendulum method for plastics?
Testing plays a critical role in the life cycle of a polymer, from the raw material to the compound through to the semi-finished and finished product. It helps to understand material performance.
The methods described in ISO 6721-2 help to determine the dynamic mechanical properties of plastics. The temperature dependence of these properties, measured over a sufficiently broad range of temperatures (for example from −50 °C to +150 °C for most commercially available plastics), gives information on the transition regions (for example the glass transition and the melting transition) of the polymer. It also provides information concerning the onset of plastic flow.
Using ISO 6721-2 guidelines, you would be in a position to take decisions on whether or not the polymer being tested is suitable for the product.
