What is ISO 683-4 - Free-cutting steels about?
ISO 683 is a series of international standards on heat-treatable steels, alloy steels, and free-cutting steels that discusses the best procedures and specifications required for manufacturing high-quality free-cutting steels products. ISO 683-4 is the fourth part of a series of documents on free-cutting steels.
ISO 683-4 gives the technical delivery requirements for semi-finished products (e.g. blooms, billets, slabs), bars, and wire rod, manufactured from the free-cutting steels listed in Table 2 and supplied in one of the treatment conditions given for the different types of products in Table 1, rows 2 to 4. ISO 683-4 covers three groups of free-cutting steels for mechanical purposes as listed in Table 2, namely
- Not intended for heat treatment
- Suitable for case-hardening
- Suitable for quenching and tempering
Who is ISO 683-4 - Free-cutting steels for?
ISO 683-4 on free-cutting steels is relevant to:
- Manufacturer of free-cutting steels products
Why should you use ISO 683-4- Free-cutting steels?
Free-cutting steel is steel that forms small chips when machined. This increases the machinability of the material by breaking the chips into small pieces, thus avoiding entanglement in the machinery. This enables automatic equipment to run without human interaction.
ISO 683-4 navigates you through the manufacturing process, heat treatment and surface condition, chemical composition, hardness, mechanical properties, machinability, weldability, and test methods.
ISO 683-4 exemplifies the required shape, dimensions, and tolerances that help you achieve precision in terms of product functionality.
As a user of ISO 683-4, you can be ensured of chemical composition, hardness, mechanical properties of bars, and wire rod, manufactured from the free-cutting steels. With obedience and compliance to ISO 683-4, you can efficiently manufacture high-quality products from free-cutting steels. ISO 683-4 helps you to build consumer trust and confidence in the product. With ISO 683-4 you can be ensured that the products consistently meet and exceed quality assurance targets.
ISO 683-4 provides you with comprehensive information useful throughout the process of production.
