What is ISO 8031 about?
ISO 8031 specifies electrical test methods for rubber and plastics hoses, tubing and hose assemblies to determine the resistance of conductive, antistatic, and non-conductive hoses and the electrical continuity or discontinuity between metal end fittings.
This edition of ISO 8031 addresses the issues that arise during field testing and product acceptance tests at a manufacturing facility when the test procedures provided in ISO 8031:1993 are followed.
All the test methods described for rubber hoses in ISO 8031 can also be applied to plastic hoses.
Who is ISO 8031 for?
ISO 8031 on rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies is applicable to:
- Rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies manufacturers
- Automobile manufacturers
- Petrochemical industry
- Industrial gasses industry
- Chemical Industry
- HVAC
Why should you use ISO 8031?
Molecules collide with each other as they move/flow through a pipe. Some electrons are "knocked off" during molecule collisions, producing a small amount of electrical charge. The electrical charge increases in proportion to the length of the hose assembly, the velocity of material transfer, the volume of material transferred, and the coarseness of the transferred material and the inner tube of the hose. Test guidelines in ISO 8031 help you to evaluate electrical conductivity in rubber and plastics hoses.
Electrical test methods in ISO 8031 helps to methods to determine the ability of a hose assembly (with metal end fittings) to dissipate static electric charges when the metal end fitting is connected to the earth.
The ISO 8031 guidelines will assist you in determining whether rubber and plastic hoses are conductive or not by evaluating the resistance of conductive, antistatic, and non-conductive hoses. Additionally, it aids in identifying the electrical continuity or discontinuity between metal end fittings and rubber and plastic hoses.
What’s the change since the last update?
BS EN ISO 8031:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 8031:2009, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 8031:2020 contains normative references that have been updated with respect to BS EN ISO 8031:2009.
