What is ISO 8130-3 about?
ISO 8130 discusses Coating powders. ISO 8130-3 is the third part of the ISO 8130 multi-series and discusses the determination of density.
ISO 8130 specifies a liquid displacement pyknometer method for the determination of the density of coating powders. The method is based on a determination of the mass and the volume of a test portion.
Who is ISO 8130-3 for?
ISO 8130-3 on coating powders is useful for:
- Paint manufacturers
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 8130-3?
Density is a measure of mass per unit of volume, frequently expressed in g/cm3. It has been implied that a lower coating density means better coverage. In such an instance it is accepted that a given weight of an uncured coating with a lower density covers a greater area than does a higher density product.
ISO 8130-3 helps you in finding this density in coating powders using a liquid displacement pyknometer test. The test mentioned ISO 8130-3 helps you to find the density more precisely. ISO 8130-3 helps you manufacture high-quality paints and helps gain good consumer trust and confidence.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 8130-3:2021 supersedes BS EN ISO 8130-3:2010, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 8130-3:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN ISO 8130-3:2010. These include:
- The use of acetone for cleaning the pycnometer has been deleted
- The order of filling the pycnometer has been changed
- The acceptable difference between the two results (Clause 9) is given as a percentage
- The terms and definitions clause (Clause 3) has been added
- The scope has been revised editorially, the text has been editorially revised, and the normative references have been updated
