What is ISO 8429 - Graduated dial scale about?
ISO 8429 is a European standard that discusses ophthalmology for optics and optical instruments. ISO 8429 specifications for the angular coordinate system to be used in the design of scales, reticles, or other display means incorporated in instruments for determining optical data on human eyes or corrective lenses for human eyes.
Note: An example of a scale designed using the coordinate system is shown. It is shown with a specific angular scale design, this is by no means meant to imply that other designs cannot be used and still be considered within the scope and intent of ISO 8429.
Who is ISO 8429 - Graduated dial scale for?
ISO 8429 on the graduated dial scale used for ophthalmology is useful for:
- Manufacturers of graduated dial scales for ophthalmology
- Ophthalmic laboratories
- Regulatory authorities
Why should you use ISO 8429 - Graduated dial scale?
The coordinate system is the same whether it refers to the right eye or the left eye. When used, the coordinate system is described as it appears to a person viewing the eyes and the spectacle lenses correctly placed in front of the eyes from outside.
ISO 8429 guideline assists you with the angular orientation of the cylinder axis, the angular orientation of the prism base, and the angular orientation of the principal for graduated dial scale for designing scales or any other display means for use in optics and optical instruments.
With obedience and compliance to ISO 8429, you can properly design a graduated dial scale that describes the refractive error of the eye or the refractive effect of a contact or spectacle lens, the prismatic effect of a contact or spectacle lens in polar coordinates, and the curvature of a surface such as a cornea or a lens.
