What is ISO 8659 about?
ISO 8659 specifies the endurance test necessary to confirm the ability of hand-operated plastics valves to withstand prolonged use, with repeated opening and closure.
ISO 8659 includes values of the parameters necessary for the proper performance of the endurance test, with the reservation that the parameters are different in particular product standards.
ISO 8659 does not specify the ability of valves to withstand adverse conditions, in particular those of chemically aggressive fluid media and/or environments, or excessive fluid velocities and cavitation.
Note: Concerning the chemical aggression of the materials, a classification table is reported in ISO/TR 10358.
Who is ISO 8659 for?
ISO 8659 on thermoplastics valves is applicable to:
- Thermoplastics valves manufacturers
- Automobile manufacturers
- Petrochemical industry
- Industrial gasses industry
- Chemical Industry
- water treatment systems
Why should you use ISO 8659?
Thermoplastic valves are a great alternative to the traditional pipes and valves. They can withstand corrosion and are cheaper too. Their fatigue strength helps us to determine their longevity or any prevailing issues.
Following the guidelines in ISO 8659 will help you determine the ability of Thermoplastics valves to withstand wear and tear and other service life issue, hence it will help to increase the service life and aids in the durability of thermoplastics valves.
Hand-operated plastic valves are subjected to friction, and other environmental issues such as chemical vapour or high humidity in the air surrounding the valve can cause external corrosion. To eliminate these problems, ISO 8659 guidelines will assist you in improving the performance and efficiency of thermoplastic valves.
ISO 8659 aids in establishing certain basic requirements for the endurance testing of plastics valves to ensure that uniform test methods are adopted. ISO 8659 should be used in conjunction with any specific requirements, particularly product standards related to the different types of valves.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 8659:2020 supersedes BS EN 28659:1992, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 8659:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 28659:1992. These include:
- Updating of the normative references and terms and definitions clauses
- Specification of the type of valve in the test report and explanation note for the opening torque
