What is ISO 9073-4 about ?
ISO 9073-4 is a series on nonwovens. Nonwoven fabric is a fabric-like material made from staple fibre (short) and long fibres (continuous long), bonded together by chemical, mechanical, heat or solvent treatment. ISO 9073-4 specifies a method for the determination of tear resistance of nonwovens by the trapezoid method. ISO 9073-4 applies to nonwovens.
Who is ISO 9073-4 for ?
ISO 9073-4 on nonwovens is useful for:
- Nonwovens manufacturer
- Nonwovens testing institutions
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use ISO 9073-4 ?
Nonwovens are innovative, high-tech, engineered fabrics made from fibres. The trapezoid tear method is a test that produces tension along a defined course such that the tear generates across the width of the specimen. It is useful for estimating the relative tear resistance of different fabrics or different directions in the same fabric. ISO 9073-4 determines tear resistance on nonwovens.
The test method used in ISO 9073-4 provides information on the fabric’s ability to resist a continuous tear from sharp objects such as nails or screws, so it will be beneficial for the nonwoven manufacturer to make their product more strong for use as if the product has very less tear resistance quality it will decrease the product demand in the market so it is important to know the tear resistance quality of the product to make it stronger and consumers satisfactory good as if consumers are satisfied then the demand increases day by day which will lead to increase the supply and production level of the company of that good with an increase in the profits earned by the company and goodwill of the company in the market. Using ISO 9073-4 you can specify a method for the determination of tear resistance of nonwovens by the trapezoid method.
What is changed since the last update ?
BS EN ISO 9073-4:2021 supersedes ISO 9073-4:1997. BS EN ISO 9073-4:2021 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 9073-4:1997. These include:
- The title has been changed to "Nonwovens — Test methods — Part 4: Determination of tear resistance by the trapezoid procedure"
- The value method of a single specimen changed from the average value of the series of significant load peaks to maximum force as the test result of a single specimen has been modified
