What is ISO 9455‑3 about?
ISO 9455‑3 is the third element of the multi-series international standard that covers the soft soldering fluxes.
ISO 9455‑3 gives technical specifications such as terms, definitions, method A i.e., potentiometric titration method, method B i.e., titration method with visual endpoint, precision as well as stating test report. It specifies these two methods for the determination of the acid value of a flux of types 1 and 2 only. Method A is a potentiometric titration method and is to be considered as the reference method. Method B is an alternative, visual end‑point, titration method.
Who is ISO 9455‑3 for?
ISO 9455‑3 on the determination of the acid value applicable to:
- Electronic and Electrical Industries
- Soft soldering fluxes manufacturers
- Welding equipment manufacturers
- Manufacturer of aircraft & aerospace
- Automotive, mechanical Industries
- Suppliers of soft soldering fluxes
Why should you use ISO 9455‑3?
Fluxes assist molten solder in wetting metal surfaces to be connected by eliminating oxides and other impurities from the solder and the surfaces of the parts during soldering. Fluxes also prevent surfaces from oxidation and help molten solder moisten the base metals.
ISO 9455‑3 gives you test methods for the determination of the acid value in soft soldering fluxes. It helps you to increase the efficiency and performance of fluxes intended to use with soft solders for welded joints and assemblies.
ISO 9455‑3 specifies two methods potentiometric titration method, and titration method with visual endpoint, from which you can choose a suitable method as per the requirement. It also gives you provisions for carrying out the tests, to improve the quality of metallic welded joints and assemblies.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS EN ISO 9455‑3:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 9455‑3:1995, which is withdrawn. BS EN ISO 9455‑3:2020 includes some technical changes as follows:
- The automated titration procedure has been added to 4.4
- BS EN ISO 9455‑3:2020 has been editorially aligned with the current Directives
