What is ISO 52950 about?
ISO 52950 discusses about General principles for Additive manufacturing. ISO 52950 covers the principal considerations which apply to data exchange for additive manufacturing.
ISO 52950 specifies terms and definitions which enable information to be exchanged describing geometries or parts such that they can be additively manufactured. The data exchange method outlines file type, data enclosed formatting of such data and what it can be used for.
Note 1: ISO 52950 assumes that the reader has a basic understanding of the process flow of different additive processes.
Note 2: ISO 52950 explains the processes used in practice in only as much detail as it necessary to understand the statements.
ISO 52959:
- Enables a suitable format for data exchange to be specified
- Describes the existing developments for additive manufacturing of 3D geometries
- Outlines existing file formats used as part of the existing developments
- Enables understanding of necessary features for data exchange for adopters
Who is ISO 52950 for?
ISO 52950 on additive manufacturing is applicable to:
- Producers of additive manufacturing systems and equipment including software
- Software engineers involved in CAD/CAE systems
- Reverse engineering systems developers
- Test bodies wishing to compare requested and actual geometries
Why should you use ISO 52950?
Additive manufacturing is used to fabricate prototypes, tools and production parts. Additive manufacturing aims to make manufacturing operations more digitally flexible and efficient.
ISO 52950 provides you an extensive guidance on data exchange processes such as data flow, data formats and data preparation which allows you to build robust digital systems which are secure, flexible and efficient.
ISO 52950 also offers you recommendations and advice both on users and manufacturers end, to improve communication between customers and supplier and to contribute to an authoritative performance design and smooth handling of the project.
