What is BS IEC 61196-1-114- Coaxial communication cables about?
BS IEC 61196-1-114 is a safety standard on coaxial communication cables.
BS IEC 61196-1-114 details the test methods to determine the inductance characteristics of
coaxial cables used in analogue and digital communication systems.
BS IEC 61196-1-114 describes the inductance (L) of the cable as the sum of the inductances of the inner conductor, the outer conductor, and the mutual inductance between the two conductors.
Who is BS IEC 61196-1-114- Coaxial communication cables for?
BS IEC 61196-1-114 on electrical test methods for coaxial communication cables is relevant to:
- Testing authorities of test for inductance
- Manufacturers of coaxial communication cables
- Manufacturers of testing equipment
- Electricians
- Electrical engineers
Why should you use BS IEC 61196-1-114- Coaxial communication cables?
Coaxial cable is used as a transmission line for radio frequency signals.
BS IEC 61196-1-114 assists with electrical test methods for coaxial communication cables. The measurements can be performed using an impedance analyzer (or alternatively a discrete
signal generator and receiver), an LCR-meter, or an impedance-measuring-bridge (Wheatstone-, Maxwell-Bridge). The test sample shall be straightened and have a length of 10 m up to 100 m. The test is performed at a delivery length if the attenuation of the cable is small enough but less than 1/20 of the wavelength of the test signal for measurement with higher frequencies.
Overall, BS IEC 61196-1-114 is useful as it assists with the electrical test methods for coaxial communication cables which can be helpful for your business.
