What is BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1‒ Synchro-phasor for power systems about?
BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 is an international standard that covers general specifications for measuring relays and protection equipment.
BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 is for synchronized phasor measurement systems in power systems. It defines a synchronized phasor (synchro-phasor), frequency, and rate of change of frequency measurements. It describes time tag and synchronization requirements for the measurement of all three of these quantities.
BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 specifies methods for evaluating these measurements and requirements for compliance with the standard under both static and dynamic conditions. It defines a phasor measurement unit (PMU), which can be a stand-alone physical unit or a functional unit within another physical unit.
Note 1: BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 does not specify hardware, software, or a method for computing phasors, frequency, or rate of change of frequency.
Who is BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1‒ Synchro-phasor for power systems for?
BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 on Synchro-phasor for power systems is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of relays and their components
- Dealers and distributors of relays and their components
- Designers and developers of relays and their components
- Test/ service providers for relays and their components
Why should you use BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1‒ Synchro-phasor for power systems?
A phasor measurement unit (PMU) estimates the parameters magnitude, phase angle, frequency, and rate of change of frequency from the signals appearing at its input terminals or interface.
BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 provides you with continuation and further development of previous synchro-phasor standards. It defines synchro-phasor, frequency, and rate of change of frequency (ROCOF) measurements, as they are very much useful in this technology. It gives you function and performance requirements for synchro-phasor measurements. Also, it specifies the tests, evaluation criteria, and error limits which helps you to determine compliance with the global standard requirements.
BS IEC/IEEE 60255‑118‑1 provides you with details about timing aspects, definition application, and derivations, PMU measurements, generator power angle, and environmental tests. It also proves to be very useful for its users, as it informs about the M and P class reference models that help them ensure the requirements that need to be met.
