What is IEC/IEEE 61886-1 about?
IEC/IEEE 61886 discusses subsea equipment.
IEC/IEEE 61886-1 is the first part of a multi-part series that applies to the single and three-phase wet-mateable and dry-mateable AC connectors, penetrators, and jumper assemblies with rated voltages from 3 kV (Umax = 3,6 kV) to 30 kV (Umax = 36 kV).
IEC/IEEE 61886-1 relates to the requirements and tests for products in the "as manufactured and supplied" condition.
Note: IEC/IEEE 61886-1 does not apply to the requirements and tests for products that have been subsequently installed, deployed, or retrieved.
Who is IEC/IEEE 61886-1 for?
IEC/IEEE 61886-1 on power connectors, penetrators, and jumper assemblies is applicable for these entities:
- Maritime industries
- Shipbuilding and marine manufacturers
- Testing agencies involved in the inspection of subsea equipment
- Electrical equipment manufacturers of ships and marine structures
- Design engineers for subsea equipment
Why should you use IEC/IEEE 61886-1?
Within the oil and gas industry, there is increasing use of electrical power equipment on the seabed. Subsea processing activities like compression and pumping require increasingly higher amount of electrical power. Power generation, whether onshore or offshore, requires development of equipment both for subsea transmission and distribution.
The lack of accessibility (for repair or replacement) in the case of this equipment defines strict requirements for reliability.
Guidelines regarding the power connectors, penetrators, and jumper assemblies under IEC/IEEE 61886-1 are useful for traceable manufacturing records to allow identification and subsequent rectification of defects after delivery.
IEC/IEEE 61886-1 assist in selecting the appropriate connector, penetrator, and jumper assembly for use in subsea equipment to build efficient and high-quality equipment.
By adopting IEC/IEEE 61886-1, you can demonstrate the reliability of your products, and enhance value across the supply chain, to ultimately improve the operational efficiency of the end-product application.
