What is ISO 10100 about?
ISO 10100 discusses hydraulic fluid power cylinders. Hydraulic fluid power cylinders and pneumatic cylinders are devices that change fluid pressure energy into mechanical energy. They are also known as actuators and have been widely used in various control devices. ISO 10100 specifies acceptance and function tests for hydraulic fluid power cylinders.
The following information about the cylinder to be tested is recorded:
- Type
- Port size, type and orientation
- If the cylinder contains cushions, verification of proper location and orientation of throttle screw(s)
- Stroke length
- Model label
- Bore
- Rod diameter
- Piston rod extension and configuration
- Mounting type or style and, where applicable, the position of the variable mounting surface
Who is ISO 10100 for?
ISO 10100 on hydraulic fluid power (cylinders) is useful for:
- Hydraulic fluid power cylinder manufacturers
- Design engineers
- Research and development facilities
Why should you use ISO 10100?
Hydraulic fluid power cylinders convert fluid power into linear mechanical force and motion. It consists of a movable element, i.e., a piston and piston rod, operating within a cylindrical bore. ISO 10100 discusses the test required for the acceptance of the hydraulic fluid power cylinders.
In hydraulic fluid power systems as discussed in ISO 10100, power is transmitted and controlled through a liquid under pressure circulating within an enclosed circuit.
Using ISO 10100 you can carry out tests on hydraulic fluid power cylinders that provide linear motion for your system.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 10100:2020 supersedes BS ISO 10100:2001+A1:2012. BS ISO 10100:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS ISO 10100:2001+A1:2012. These include:
- Normative references have been updated (Clause 2)
- A new clause “Symbols and units” (Clause 4) has been added
- Test fluids have been updated (6.1)
- New figures showing the identification of a double (Figure 1) and a single rod cylinder (Figure 2) have been added
- Fluid temperature requirements have been changed (6.2.3)
