What is ISO 10191 about?
ISO 10191 specifies test methods for verifying the capabilities of tyres for passenger cars. At times, only some of the given test methods might be required depending on the construction of the tyre (diagonal, bias-belted, radial or T-type construction) to be tested. The tests are carried out in a laboratory under controlled conditions.
ISO 10191 includes endurance tests, a low-pressure performance test, high-speed tests and requirements for bead unseating and tyre strength.
NOTE 1: ISO 10191 applies to all passenger car tyres.
NOTE 2: The test methods presented in ISO 10191 are not intended for gradation of tyre performance or quality levels.
Who is BS ISO 10191 for?
ISO 10191 on Capabilities of passenger car tyres is for: :
- Four-wheeler and two-wheeler tyre manufacturer
- Automotive industry
- Four-wheeler and two-wheeler tyre Dealers
Why should you use ISO 10191?
Passenger car tyres offer an exceptional combination of safety, long-lasting tread wear and fuel-efficiency, may it be on the highway or around congested city streets.
ISO 10191 provides you with test methods for verifying the capabilities of tyres such as endurance tests, a low-pressure performance test, high-speed tests for passenger cars, that help you assure the high-quality, reliability and credibility of passenger car tyres to your consumers.
ISO 10191 also provides you with information for balancing beads by giving you requirements for bead unseating and tyre which helps you to reduce rolling resistance in the tyre, resulting in, reduces wear.
Thus, buyers of ISO 10191 can easily manage to balance the tyre and the complete wheel assembly as it ensures the wear, even more, which results in enhanced tyre durability.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 10191:2021 supersedes BS ISO 10191:2010, which is withdrawn.
The main changes compared with the previous edition are as follows:
- Separation of test methods and requirements for radial tyres and diagonal tyres, bias-belted tyres and T-type temporary spare tyres
- Replace the descriptions of strength test and bead unseating test by reference to the corresponding ASTM standards
- Align endurance test and high-speed test for radial tyres with UN GTR No. 16[ 1]
- Allow PTFE coating of drums for endurance test, reduce conditioning time for high-speed test, allow drum acceleration in steps
- Editorial changes to improve consistency of the text and align with terms
