What is ISO 10362‑1-Determination of water in total particulate matter in cigarettes about?
ISO 10362‑1 is a standard that cover method for the determination of water in total particulate matter from the mainstream smoke which enables you to determine moisture content in tobacco which affects the smoking quality.
ISO 10362‑1 specifies a method for the gas-chromatographic determination of water in total particulate matter from the mainstream smoke.
ISO 10362‑1 is also applicable to the determination of water in total particulate matter from the mainstream smoke obtained by non-standard smoking.
Note: In countries where ISO 10362‑1 method is not used, the determination of water in total particulate matter from the mainstream smoke is performed using the Karl Fischer method. In such cases, values obtained for water in total particulate matter from the mainstream smoke are used with the addition of a note made in the expression of the results.
Who is ISO 10362‑1-Determination of water in total particulate matter in cigarettes for?
ISO 10362‑1 on determination of water in total particulate matter in cigarettes applies to:
- Manufacturers of cigarettes
- Dealers and importers of cigarettes
- Testing houses and labs for cigarettes
Why should you use ISO 10362‑1-Determination of water in total particulate matter in cigarettes?
Tobacco moisture is a key component in influencing the quality of a cigarette. The amount of moisture in the cigarette has a direct impact on whether the nicotine content is reduced or increased. Gas chromatography method for determining water in total particulate matter was verified by a collaborative study which involved 64 labs ensuring its authenticity and validity.
ISO 10362‑1 provides you guidance on gas-chromatographic method for determination of water in total particulate matter from the mainstream smoke. ISO 10362‑1 also provides you with a step-by-step procedure for the method which enables you to perform the method accurately.
ISO 10362‑1 provides you guidance on principle, reagents, apparatus, procedure, alternative gas chromatographic procedures, expression of results, repeatability, reproducibility and test reports which enables you to determine water in total particulate matter which affects combustion temperature.
Guidance in ISO 10362‑1 allows you to determine the water in total particulate matter from mainstream smoke determines the combustion temperature and the rate nicotine transfer during smoking of cigarettes.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 10362‑1:2019 supersedes BS ISO 10362‑1:1999+A1:2011, which is now withdrawn.
Changes in BS ISO 10362‑1:2019 include -
- Capillary column procedure as an alternative gas chromatographic procedure has been added
- The estimates for the repeatability limits (r) and the reproducibility limits (R) has been updated
