What is ISO 10816-6 - Reciprocating machines vibration evaluation about?
ISO 10816-6 gives guidelines for the evaluation of machine vibration by measurements on non-rotating parts. ISO 10816-6 is a new document which establishes procedures and guidelines for the measurement and classification of mechanical vibration of reciprocating machines.
ISO 10816-6 specifies the general conditions and procedures for the measurement and evaluation of vibration, using measurements made on the non-rotating and non-reciprocating parts of complete machines.
ISO 10816-6 applies to reciprocating piston machines mounted either rigidly or resiliently with power ratings of above 100 kW. Typical examples of application are: marine propulsion engines, marine auxiliary engines, engines operating in diesel generator sets, reciprocating pumps and engines for diesel locomotives.
Note: ISO 10816-6 does not apply to machines installed in road vehicles (e.g. trucks, passenger cars, self-propelled construction machinery, tractors) and reciprocating compressors.
Who is ISO 10816-6 - Reciprocating machines vibration evaluation for?
ISO 10816-6 on reciprocating machines vibration evaluation is useful for:
- Manufacturers of Reciprocating machines
- The marine industry
- Organization who designs, maintains and builds reciprocating machine
- Mechanical engineers
- Quality control personnel
- Research and development team
Why should you use ISO 10816-6 - Reciprocating machines vibration evaluation?
Typical features of reciprocating machines are the oscillating masses, the cyclically varying output (input) torques and the pulsating forces in the associated pipework. All these features cause considerable alternating forces on the main supports and vibration amplitudes of the main frame.
ISO 10816-6 provides you with recommendations for measurements and evaluation criteria for vibration of the main structure of the machine, and the guide values given for these vibrations are defined to classify the vibration of the machine and to avoid problems with auxiliary equipment mounted on this structure.
ISO 10816-6 introduces the vibration classification numbers and guide values for reciprocating machines. The guidance values help you in evaluating the vibration severity to which the machine frame and attached ancillaries and equipment may be subjected.
