ISO 11593 is an International Standard that discusses robots for industrial environments.
ISO 11593 defines terms relevant to automatic end-effector exchange systems used as a part of robot systems in accordance with ISO 10218‑2.
Who is ISO 11593- Terms related to automatic end-effector exchange systems for?
ISO 11593 on terms related to automatic end-effector exchange systems is useful for:
- Manufacturers of components for automatic end-effector exchange systems
- Manufacturers of industrial robots
- Product designers
- Product development teams
- Mechanical engineers
- Quality control and inspection authorities
- Testing agencies
- The automation industry
- Local and national bodies
- Regulatory bodies
- Certification bodies
Why should you use ISO 11593- Terms related to automatic end-effector exchange systems?
Adopting standardized and globally recognised terms related to an industry can enhance communication between various entities within a business and across the supply chain of a product. Uniform and consistent usage of terms can be helpful in clearly communicating the design intent between design engineers and production, quality testing, and inspection teams. Moreover, symbols can be a great way of communicating important product information as they can transcend language barriers.
In this regard, ISO 11593 provides the terms related to:
- External shape and main dimensions of the exchange system
- Positioning and orientation in coupling
- Coupling and releasing forces
- Mass and inertia of the coupled system
- Tolerances and uncertainty
- Magazine interfaces of the tool-mounted part
- Tool exchange timing
ISO 11593 also covers symbols that are frequently used when dealing with automatic end-effector exchange systems.
Thus, complying with ISO 11593-recognised terms related to automatic end-effector exchange systems can play a significant role in streamlining workflow processes and providing a better perspective for development decisions.
