What is ISO 11687-1about?
ISO 11687-1 is the first part of the multi-series of International Standard on plain bearings.
ISO 11687-1 is applicable to the plain bearings on pedestal plain bearings.
ISO 11687-1 specifies design characteristics for pillow blocks for size ranges 9 to 28 and 35 to 71, as well as design characteristics for shafts.
Note: ISO 11687-1 is applicable to pillow blocks used mainly in electrical and turbo engineering industries.
Who is ISO 11687-1 for?
ISO 11687-1 on design specifications of pillow blocks is relevant to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of pillow blocks
- Electrical and turbo engineering industries
- Electrical engineers
- Civil engineers
- Fabricators
Why should you use ISO 11687-1?
Pillow block bearings include mounting brackets, or pillow blocks, that provide support to a rotating shaft with the help of bearings and other accessories. This way, the inner ring of the bearing and shaft are free to rotate while the pillow block is held in place.
ISO 11687-1 provides you with the classification of pillow blocks according to their design that corresponds to various characteristics such as housing, heat-dissipation, shape of bore for journal bearing and type of lubrication and thrust bearing. Moreover, these characteristics are denoted with symbols.
Indications on the appropriate dimensions, materials and tolerances are also provided under ISO 11687-1.
Adopting design characteristics with the ISO 11687-1-compliant guidance, will help you ensure of highly efficient and wear-free rotation of these components, ultimately protecting you against corrosion.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 11687-1:2020 supersedes ISO 11687-1:1995, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 11687-1:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to ISO 11687-1:1995. These include:
- Clause 2 has been updated
- The former Clause 6 (now Clause 7) has been updated
