What is ISO 11901-3 about?
ISO 11901-3 specifies dimensions (in mm), nominal initial forces and types of gas springs.
ISO 11901-3 is applicable to gas springs with increased spring force and compact built height of type 1700 to 200000, pressurized with nitrogen with a nominal initial force between 1700 N and 200000 N for use in press tools.
Who is ISO 11901-3 for?
ISO 11901-3 on gas springs is used in:
- Companies involved in manufacturing and distribution of gas springs
- Manufacturers of pressing machinery (e.g. – hydraulics, excavator etc.)
- Suppliers, importers and dealers of gas springs
Why should you use ISO 11901-3?
Many manufacturing industries employ gas springs, including automotive and aerospace, furniture applications, and press tooling. Gas springs are lifting mechanisms that are used to support and manoeuvre heavy items and other external forces.
ISO 11901-3 gives you extensive evaluation on gas springs of different types ranging from type 1700 to 200000 ensuring safety and protection of the mounting accessories that they’re installed into. ISO 11901-3 specifies marking, technical delivery conditions and designation this enables you to build gas springs with superior spring force and compact heights.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 11901-3:2021 supersedes BS ISO 11901-3:2014, which is now withdrawn.
BS ISO 11901-3:2021 changes include:
- Modification of the nominal initial force of gas springs type 7500 and 10000, from 7500 to 7400 and from 10000 to 9200
- Modification of the end of stroke nominal force increase coefficient to have a range from 1.5 to 1.8 for all gas springs
- Deletion of tolerance on L6
- Replacement of length L4 with a diameter D3
