What is ISO 12130‑3 about?
ISO 12130‑3 is the third part of the multi-series of the document that is applicable to the plain bearings on hydrodynamic plain tilting pad thrust bearings under steady-state conditions.
ISO 12130‑3 specifies guide values for the calculation of tilting pad thrust bearings as described in ISO 12130-1. The empirical values given can be modified for specific fields of application.
Note: ISO 12130‑3 is not applicable to heavily loaded tilting pad thrust bearings.
Who is ISO 12130‑3 for?
ISO 12130‑3 on guide values for the calculation of tilting pad thrust bearings is relevant to:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of tilting pad thrust bearings
- Manufacturers of engines, compressors, and steam turbines
- Power plants
- Turbo engineering industries
- Electrical and civil engineers
Why should you use ISO 12130‑3?
Plain bearings are used for sliding, rotating, oscillating, or reciprocating motion. Plain bearings support and guide moving components inside the engine. In this regard, hydrodynamic plain thrust pad bearings are components that can take high axial loads of shafts in rotating machinery.
ISO 12130‑3 contains guide values according to which the calculation result is to be oriented to ensure optimal functioning of the plain bearings.
For limiting cases at high specific loads and/or high rotational frequencies, more accurate calculations are required, considering thermal, elastic, hydrodynamic, and/or turbulence effects.
The guide values provided by ISO 12130-3 represent limiting values in the tribological system plain bearing unit which are dependent on geometry and technology. These are empirical values which give sufficient reliability in operation even when subjected to slight disturbing influences.
As the buyer of ISO 12130‑3, you will be able to ensure optimal operational efficiency of the specific application, while being able to accurately account for outside disturbing influences like spurious forces, deviations from the ideal geometry, contamination of lubricants, corrosion and electric erosion. Ultimately, ISO 12130-3 can be your one-stop guide for design, optimisation and product development needs.
