What is ISO 12176‑5 about?
ISO 12176‑5  is the fifth part of the multi-series of documents that is applicable to the plastics pipes and fittings on equipment for fusion jointing polyethylene systems.
ISO 12176‑5  specifies an encoding system for data of components, assembly methods and jointing operations for polyethylene (PE) piping systems for gas, water and other industrial applications. These data can be used in a traceability system and/or used to perform the fusion of components by using the equipment.
Data to be encoded are fusion cycle(s), traceability of manufactured products, other manufacturer’s information that can also be given on websites such as voluntary certificates of quality and approvals.
ISO 12176‑5 specifies the export of data (type, format and sequence) from a data retrieval system.
Who is ISO 12176‑5 for?
ISO 12176‑5 on two-dimensional data coding for PE piping systems is relevant to:
- Manufacturers of PE pipes and fittings
- Manufacturers of petroleum products and natural gas handling equipment
- Design engineers, installers, and specifiers of piping systems
Why should you use ISO 12176‑5?
The usage of two-dimensional coding is becoming more popular due to the amount of information that can be grouped in a compact space, which can create expanded prospects for manufacturers and customers. The ability to apply a built-in correction level to the coding can assist you in using a two-dimensional code, allowing the operator to safely use all information coded even if some scratches or missing bits exist.
ISO 12176-5 allows for the coding of all aspects, such as enormous diameters, huge saddles, and other imperial sizes. ISO 12176-5 also aims to standardise the transfer of data recorded in electronic unit memories to other electronic equipment (e.g. computer/database) and to stimulate the use of traceability at any level for further development of PE pipe systems.
