What is ISO 13256‑2 about?
ISO 13256‑2 establishes performance testing and rating criteria for factory-made residential, commercial and industrial, electrically driven, mechanical- compression type, water-to-water and brine-to-water heat pumps.
The requirements for testing and rating contained in ISO 13256‑2 are based on the use of matched assemblies.
ISO 13256‑2 gives technical specifications for testing such as terms, definitions, symbols, ratings and test conditions, performance requirements, test methods, marking provisions and publication of ratings for water source heat pumps.
Equipment may be designed for rating at one or several source and load side temperature conditions described in ISO 13256‑2.
Note: ISO 13256‑2 does not apply to the testing and rating of individual assemblies for separate use.
Who is ISO 13256‑2 for?
ISO 13256‑2 on water source heat pumps is applicable in:
- Companies dealing with water heat pumps
- Manufacturing of water heat pump
- Suppliers and distributors of water pumps
Why should you use ISO 13256‑2?
Water heat pump is water-to-water heat pump using, on source side, water pumped from a well, lake, or steam.
ISO 13256‑2 provides you the technical specifications and performance requirements of water source heat pump. These cover heating and cooling systems which are generally referred to as “water-source heat pumps.” These systems generally include an indoor heat exchanger with means to move the liquid, a compressor, and a refrigerant-to-water or refrigerant-to-brine heat exchanger. A system may provide both heating and cooling, cooling-only, or heating-only functions.
ISO 13256‑2 provides you with a variety in water-to-water and brine-to-water pump such as multistage capacity heat pump, variable capacity heat pump, standard rating capacity, two stage capacity heat pump, fixed capacity heat pump, which helps in reducing the risks factors and enhancing security while manufacturing the water-source heat pumps according to global standards.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 13256‑2:2021 supersedes ISO 132562:1998, which has been technically revised.
BS ISO 13256‑2:2021 includes the following changes:
- Significant updates to the formatting, symbols, and terms and definitions, have been included to more closely align with other pertinent ISO standards and the latest ISO requirements
- The original water loop heat pump (WLHP), ground water heat pump (GWHP) and ground loop heat pump (GLHP) application rating designations, specifying entering liquid source rating test conditions, have been replaced with High, Medium, and Low source temperature range conditions to represent a wider operating map at both standard and partially loaded application rating conditions.
- Specific antifreeze solution composition requirements have been removed to eliminate prescriptive language and promote industry innovation of novel and improved antifreeze solutions
- The standard has been expanded to allow multiple heating capacity ratings at differing load temperature conditions (Very High, High, Medium, and Low). Medium was retained as the original load condition.
- Testing tolerances and uncertainties have been harmonized with other pertinent ISO standards, Annexes have been significantly updated and harmonized with other pertinent ISO standards.
