What is ISO 13319‑1 standard about?
ISO 13319‑1 is the first part of the ISO 13319 multi-series. ISO 13319‑1 specifies the measurement of the size distribution of particles dispersed in an electrolyte solution using the electrical sensing zone method. This can include biologics such as cells, but also industrial particles such as carbon, cement, ceramic powders, metal powders, pigments and polymer powders.
The method measures pulse heights and their relationship to particle volumes or diameters and is applicable over the range (implementation dependant) from approximately 0,5 μm tο above 1 mm.
Note: ISO 13319‑1 does not address the specific requirements of the measurement of specific materials.
Who is ISO 13319‑1 for?
ISO 13319‑1 on the electrical sensing zone method is beneficial for:
- Phycisists
- Electrical engineer
- Electrotechnology industry
- Scientists and researchers
- Research and development laboratories
Why should you use ISO 13319‑1 standard?
Particle-size distribution of dispersed particles in a fluid is a mathematical function or a set of values that describe the relative amount of particles present according to their size.
ISO 13319‑1 provides information on general operation, size limits, effects of coefficient particle passage, operational procedures and calculation of results required to determine particle size distribution by electrical sensing zone method.
By using ISO 133191-1, you will be able to accurately characterise particles and undertake particle counting of narrow size particle size distributions based on various properties, densities, shapes and colours. As a result of the high level of accuracy and resolution, expansion to wider applications remains a bright possibility.
What’s changed since the last update?
BS ISO 13319‑1:2021 supersedes BS ISO 13319:2007, which is withdrawn.
This first edition of ISO 13319-1 cancels and replaces ISO 13319:2007, which has been technically revised. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
- A general update to reflect the needs of modern quality assurance
- The section on repeatability and inter-system variation has been expanded
- Many instruments of this type are under strict controls within the pharmaceutical and related industries, therefore a new annex has been prepared with details of the factors which should be considered when developing a validated method in this arena
- Calculation of results now gives details of the exact parameters which should be reported, to present the method and the key parameters of the result
