What is ISO 13733 about?
ISO 13733 is an International Standard that discusses universal fairleads used for mooring and towing purposes.
ISO 13733 specifies the types, nominal sizes, dimensions, and materials, as well as construction, manufacturing, and marking requirements, for universal fairleads with an upper roller(s) installed to lead the mooring rope of a ship.
Who is ISO 13733 for?
ISO 13733 on universal fairleads is applicable to:
- Marine industries
- Manufacturers of universal fairleads
- Shipbuilding and naval products manufacturers
- Vessel parts and equipment manufacturers
- Product design engineers of universal fairleads
Why should you use ISO 13733?
Roller fairlead is one of the most widely used fairleads and is an important part of the marine mooring device. The guidelines provided in ISO 13733 helps in manufacturing standardised universal fairleads with specific dimensions as per your requirements. As a result, you can make improved choices based on the type, size, and materials so as to meet normal mooring and towing requirements.
ISO 13733 provides guidelines on inspecting surfaces in contact with the ropes such that they are free from surface roughness or irregularities, thus preventing damage to the ropes from abrasion. For this purpose, ISO 13733 also provides guidance on the necessary anti-corrosion protective finish for external coating.
As a manufacturer, complying with ISO 13733 to ensure of high-performing universal fairleads, can ultimately help in reducing the abrasion of mooring ropes, while efficiently changing direction without snagging or fouling. In addition, concerns of deformation and resulting fractures can be minimized with the right selection of universal fairleads.
With increased stiffness and fairlead strength, you can demonstrate the reliability of your products and build trust in their use throughout the marine supply chain by adhering to ISO 13733.
