What is ISO 13861 - Terminology related to wheeled skidders about?
Skidders are self-propelled machine designed to transport trees or parts of trees by trailing or dragging.
ISO 13861 is an International Standard that discusses machinery for forestry.
ISO 13861 specifies terminology and required information as a general framework for identifying and describing the main dimensions and features of wheeled skidders.
ISO 13861 is applicable to articulated wheeled cable and grapple skidders.
Note: The terminology and requirements given in ISO 13861 do not necessarily all apply to a specific machine. Machines can be characterized by the dimensions and features which are relevant to them.
Who is ISO 13861- Terminology related to wheeled skidders for?
ISO 13861 on the specifications for wheeled skidders is useful for:
- Manufacturers and suppliers of forestry equipment
- Manufacturers and suppliers of wheeled skidders
- Product designers
- Quality control and inspection authorities
- The forestry department
- Local and National bodies
- Regulatory bodies
Why should you use ISO 13861- Terminology related to wheeled skidders?
Adopting standardized and globally recognised terminology related to an industry or product can enhance communication between various entities within a business and across the supply chain of a product. Uniform and consistent usage of terminology can be helpful in clearly communicating the design intent amongst design engineers, and production, quality testing, and inspection teams.
In this regard, ISO 13861 covers terms related to:
- Masses
- Main machine dimensions
- Grapple dimensions and configuration
- Butt plate dimensions
Adopting these terminologies can be beneficial in ensuring the product is manufactured accurately and precisely such that wheeled skidders meet the desired performance needs.
Thus, complying with ISO 13861-recognised terms related to wheeled skidders can play a significant role in streamlining workflow processes and providing a better perspective for development decisions. In particular, ISO 13861 can also play a significant role when it comes to mitigating risks and hazards associated with the operation of wheeled skidders.
