What is ISO 1413 – Shock-resistant wrist watches about?
The scientific study of time and clock making is known as horology. A watch is considered shock resistant if it can withstand shocks to the movement, particularly to the sensitive pivots that keep the balance wheel in position.
ISO 1413 specifies the minimum requirements for shock-resistant wrist watches and describes the corresponding test method. ISO 1413 specifies the minimum requirements for shock-resistant wrist watches and describes the corresponding test method.
Who is ISO 1413 - Shock-resistant wrist watches for?
ISO 1413 guidelines on shock-resistant wrist watches is useful for:
- Laboratory research horologist
- Product development teams/innovation teams
- Quality control personnel
Why should you use ISO 1413 - Shock-resistant wrist watches?
Different watchmakers utilize different techniques to make a watch shock-resistant, but the overall concept is to use a balance wheel with a spring suspension mechanism. Different brands use various shock-resistant mechanisms to uphold the trust of their brand.
ISO 1413 is intended to allow the homologation test of watches rather than the individual control of all watches of a production batch. Indeed, assuming that each watch could comply with the minimum requirements without apparent damage, readjustment could still be made necessary because the test can lead to an alteration of the initial functions and rate of a complete watch.
ISO 1413 covers a number of fundamental test conditions to identify the resistance to shock. These test conditions include temperature test, water-resistance test, and shock characteristics. Thus, the use of ISO 1413 gives an idea for the evaluation of shock resistance watch based on the following test methods, which further helps in the manufacturing of the quality product.
